ART ATTACK!
Art time is commonly one of the favorites of students around here. This is the time the students get to express themselves and release the inner artist. In art, there are open-ended and boundless creative possibilities.
Group 3A kids were eager and excited to have their art class, because they had missed it for three straight weeks due to scheduling conflicts. When I announced to the class what they were going to do, they were thrilled.
I set up the working area outdoors hoping they could connect with nature and get an inspiration while doing primary color painting. The frenzied students wanted to start right away each using a set of primary color paints with 3 brushes and 1 piece of white paper.
At first, some students were capricious and dubious of what they were going to do or make. Were they going to mix the colors to create new ones or work only with the primary colors? But after a moment they were overflowing with ideas.
It's so neat to see what they can do on their own. Each a work of art indeed!

Meet the future leaders and community helpers. Every day they come to school with fully charged energy, unstoppable curiosity, richly given ability, and a hungry desire to be trained.
Because they were blessed to have a chance to come to school and be given attention, with a big smile and with confidence, they say that in due time and with the Lord’s help they will be prepared to face life independently and be equipped to serve the community.

It's More Fun at CCHS!
When I first came to CCHS, it was for my interview with the principal and the consultant. I was so nervous because it was my first time to be interviewed. I prayed and tried to be optimistic no matter what happened. My prayer was granted.
I am now part of the CCHS faculty. The people at CCHS are so great because they make me feel comfortable. I have learned a lot of new things from them. I am so thankful that I have been able to meet happy people. Everything happens for a reason.
The students are so energetic. Each child has his own unique personality and skills. Every afternoon the kids bring flowers they have picked for the teachers. How sweet these students are! Every time the school has a special event, they are excited for the games, activities and especially the snacks. They participate and enjoy the activity. It’s More Fun at CCHS!

MARBLES! MARBLES! MARBLES!
Marbles is one of the traditional games played by Filipino children.
Last week, Level C2 kids read a story entitled “The Marble Champ” by Gary Soto. They were so excited to read the story! They wanted to know the rules and how to play the game. When I announced to the class about our upcoming marble game championship, everyone was frantic with excitement. At first, everyone was laughing because they had a hard time rolling the marble from their thumb to hit the targeted marbles. Good thing they didn’t give up! Whenever they had extra time, they spent it practicing. One of my students even asked me how to squeeze the eraser (that is the thumb exercise the main character of our story was doing) properly to strengthen their thumb muscles!
Friday came and the game began! They were divided into 2 sets with 3 competitors each. Everyone was taking the game seriously.
The winner of each set competed with one another in a new “arena”. Everyone was holding their breath and wondering who would win the game.
At last, the games ended and Level C2 kids announced their first MARBLE CHAMPION!

A Conversation
Level B2 (grade 3) has 8 students. During my first day at Cebu Children of Hope School, I was really fascinated with the students that I have. In my 2 years of teaching at other schools, I had more than 30 students in my classes. I am lucky that I am now at CCHS.
One day last week, one of my students touched me so much. He asked for help because he didn’t know how to answer a question. To be fair to the other students, I told him to read the question again and analyze it. However, he insisted so I explained the question to him and at the same time I tried to get to know him a bit more. We talked about where he had come from and a bit about his family. Suddenly he started crying. His classmates told him to stop crying, but it didn’t work. I talked with him some more and asked him, “Did you cry because of your family or did you cry because you could not answer the question?” He did not answer and instead he bowed his head. I asked him again, “Is it about your family?” He nodded. Then he looked up and smiled at me and said, “I’m okay teacher and thank you for helping me.”
